Driver Education Student and Parent,
I look forward to having your son or daughter for the Drivers’ Ed program. It will be held in the study hall from 7:10 am until 7:55 am daily
As required by the state of Illinois, the students in this class MUST be in attendance a minimum of 30 clock hours. Therefore, in order to meet this requirement, a student may not miss more than ONE day of driver education for any reason. Missing more than one day will result in dropping the student from class, class refunds not allowed, and he/she will have to take the class another quarter and repay the fee.
Students will receive 30 hours of classroom instruction now and 6 hours of behind the wheel when scheduled. An effort is made to finish all instructions before the student’s 16th birthday, BUT there are times when this will not be possible. One of the major areas covered in the classroom is that of driver responsibility. Students must understand that while they are driving they will be held liable for their actions, and driving is a privilege that can be taken away. New laws are passed almost every year concerning suspensions or revocation of drivers’ license, especially in regards to teen driving. One law requires parents to sign an affidavit stating that they have practiced driving 50 hours with their child before they may obtain their license.
For the classroom instruction students will receive one copy of the Illinois Rules of the Road manual which must be with them in class every day. In addition, each student will be required to bring a class folder, highlighter, and writing utensil.
By the end of the fifth week we should be ready for the student to obtain their learner’s permit (white slip). Passing the State Driver’s Test is required. A student will not be able to obtain their permit if they are receiving a D or a failing grade.
